Amrita Entrance Exam - Account of 2011 Exam

Amrita Medical University is a medical university part of the Amrita Group, with universities in Kochi and Amritapuri in Kerala, and Bengaluru and Mysore in Karnataka. Attached with the impressive 1440 bed  Amrita Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS) compound at Kochi, the establishment is a secular organization run by a Hindu group. Students of all creeds and background are welcomed, and there are prayer halls for all religions.

Exam : The 2011 Amrita Entrance Exam did NOT HAVE examination centres in Dubai, UAE. All candidates  had to travel to Kerala to write the exam. One of the exams was at a school in Kochi. There was some interesting things in the exam paper.

For one, many questions were unrelated to Biology, Physics, or Chemistry (BPC). While the Kerala Entrance Pattern (click to see it) was followed, surprisingly, there were questions, all of which score marks, related to :
  1. Hindu Mythology

If you don't know about Hindu mythology, you will lose marks. There were at least five questions about it, each carrying marks. Therefore, it is advised your knowledge of it is brushed up before you write the exam. This link will give you important information about Hinduism. Some of the questions that were asked were :

       * What was the name of the animal that tried to block Ravana from kidnapping Sita ?
       * Who were the combatants (fighters) of the Battle of Kurukshetra ?
       * Choose the list locations outside India mentioned in scriptures (religious writings) :
Kandahar (Afghanistan), Dhaka (Bangladesh), Sri Lanka

All questions had choices.

2. English Proficiency questions

There were a few vocabulary questions. They had no connection to BCP. The question types were mainly of the type : "what is the meaning of ..." or "what is the antonym (opposite) of ...". The only way to be prepared is to have a good vocabulary i.e. learn the meaning of many words.

You can enhance your vocabulary (and thus boost your chances of cracking the AIMS exam) by regularly looking at the 'Enhance Your Vocabulary Section' of the website on the right side of the webpage. Every day a new word is featured, so make sure to visit this website whenever you can.

All questions had choices.
3. Comprehension Passage and Questions in English

A comprehension passage (reading passage) will be given and the questions that follow will test your understanding.  It was quite tricky, even for very good English speaking candidates, so be extra careful.

All questions had choices.
